Italiannies

Italiannies chain of restaurants, is a spin off from T.G.I Friday’s Malaysia. The restaurant chain have been popping up in few places in Kuala Lumpur. It offers a different dinning environment to T.G.I Friday’s. Italiannies serves American-Italian style food, think spaghetti, pasta, pizza and such.

Apart from the food, one of the restaurant appeal is its environment. The decor are designed as if you just walked into an Italian homey family run restaurant. You are at a corner street restaurant in Italy. Not that I’ve been to Italy but that’s how I imagine it would be.

California Cafe

If you go to The Curve often you might have walked pass by this tiny little cafe on ‘The Walk’, the strips between The Curve and Cineleasure. You might even walk pass California Cafe hundreds of times and not even notice it.

So this time we decided to stop by and try out its desserts.

There are limited choice of ice cream on its ice cream menu. We ordered the Black Forest Coupe and Cherry Jubilee.

Dinner at Chun Buri
Chun Buri 1

Chun Buri Seafood and Tom Yam restaurant serves Thai dishes. Located at Kota Damansara, it’s a small restaurant. The all wood deco creates a feeling as if you are entering someone’s wooden kampung house.

Chun Buri 2
Chun Buri 3

The place does not look like it can fit a lot of people, unlike some other popular Malay Thai restaurant / warung that put up tables up to the streets, Chun Buri only has tables inside the outlet.

Normally I would order either Nasi Goreng Pataya or Nasi Goreng Paprik, this time however, we ordered white rice with some dishes. For those who can’t decide which dish goes with what, they have it in their menu several different sets. We ordered package one, a set of meal enough for 3-4 people.

Taste of India Restaurant
Taste of India

Since it is Deepavali, we decided to have something Indian for dinner. What better place to dine other then Taste of India restaurant located at Aman Suria, in Petaling Jaya. Formerly known as Maroon Cafe, Taste of India is the same shop, run by the same people except maybe a different management.

When asked the waiter what’s with the name change, he says that the boss wants to be consistent throughout all the other branches. Looking at the menu I notice it says “Taste of India – London, Kuala Lumpur, Kumba Konam India, Paris”. Wow, this is not your ordinary mamak.

The open air environment (with roof) is good for just chilling out. There is a projector mounted and a wall screen. Great for hanging out with buddies and watch a football game or two. Just like in Mamaks but with fancier food and service.

Pak Li Kopitiam
Pak li 1

Over at Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara there is a plethora of Kopitiams. Every conner you turn there is a kopitiam shop.

Not just the kopitiams but it seems that the mamaks there are battling each other in who has the best blings for their outlets.

Today we tried dining at Pak Li Kopitiam. Nice place, clean and nice deco. Looks like an authentic kopitiam. I guess they are really proud to be featured on Jalan-Jalan Cari makan, because there is wall with pictures of Jalan-Jalan Cari makan reviewing the shop.

Izzi pizza, pasta and coffee
Izzi Bukit Bintang

Izzi is part of “Izzi Pizza”, an established chain of popular restaurants specializing in Italian and Asian cuisine in Jakarta, Indonesia. Izzi Kuala Lumpur is the chain’s flagship restaurant and the first of several outlets to go international.

I don’t think it has anything to do with Izzi broadband, but they do have free Wifi at their outlets.

We went to Izzi at Bukit Bintang, one of its big outlets. It’s cozy and they played nice easy listening music. The waiter who greeted us was very friendly. Maybe we were just lucky and he was in a good mood. Whatever it is, happy waiter makes happy customers.

Homst a Chinese Muslim Cuisine

Is there any different between a Chinese Muslim food restaurant and to a halal Chinese restaurants here in Malaysia? I don’t see there is much different between them.

Homst 1

Homst, located at Persiaran Za’aba, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, categorize itself as a Chinese Muslim restaurant. It is very cosy and comfortable and the outlet is typically Chinese, Cantonese and Teo Chew with some homemade variety dishes.

Nasi Bojari at Madam Kwan
Nasi Bojari

Yesterday we went to Madam Kwan for berbuka puasa. Madam Kwan chain of restaurants have been around for quite sometime and I’ve seen a few outlet pop-up here and there.

We went to the Pavilion’s Madam Kwan outlet, located at the Lower Ground floor, where the Pavilion’s Food Republic is.

‘Truly Malaysian Cuisine’, is Madam Kwan’s tagline and they stay true to it. Even though they do serve western meals on it’s menu, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

When I’m in Madam Kwan, there is only two things I had in mind. The Nasi Lemak and Nasi Bojari. I had Nasi Bojari this time.
