California Cafe

If you go to The Curve often you might have walked pass by this tiny little cafe on ‘The Walk’, the strips between The Curve and Cineleasure. You might even walk pass California Cafe hundreds of times and not even notice it.

So this time we decided to stop by and try out its desserts.

There are limited choice of ice cream on its ice cream menu. We ordered the Black Forest Coupe and Cherry Jubilee.

Burger King BBQ Beefacon Cheese Triple Stacker

Recently I went to Burger King. Sometimes I love some fast food, and Burger King is one of my favorite. As I arrived at the outlet, I notice a promotional poster. It’s the new BBQ Beefacon Cheese Stacker with the tag line “Do You Dare?”.

Weekend of prawns

My dad just got back from Sabah. Apparently in Sabah seafood is pretty cheap, he brings back with him a few boxes of prawns. This calls for a prawn fiesta. Several different types of prawns were prepared.

If you were wondering how one ships prawns or other seafood from Sabah, they are packed in a plastic bag of frozen ice. Just like a block of ice with prawns inside. It would last for hours before completely melt. This also means that it will take some time for it to defrost.

Izzi pizza, pasta and coffee
Izzi Bukit Bintang

Izzi is part of “Izzi Pizza”, an established chain of popular restaurants specializing in Italian and Asian cuisine in Jakarta, Indonesia. Izzi Kuala Lumpur is the chain’s flagship restaurant and the first of several outlets to go international.

I don’t think it has anything to do with Izzi broadband, but they do have free Wifi at their outlets.

We went to Izzi at Bukit Bintang, one of its big outlets. It’s cozy and they played nice easy listening music. The waiter who greeted us was very friendly. Maybe we were just lucky and he was in a good mood. Whatever it is, happy waiter makes happy customers.

Selamat Hari Raya from MakanByte

MakanByte wishes you and your family a Selamat Hari Raya and happy holidays. Drive safe and eat somewhat moderately.

Raya 1

We didn’t have much of a feast, but the usual suspect is all here. Rendang daging, kuah kacang, and flatten rice to replace the ketupat. Also a few out of the ordinary dishes, bean sprouts and curry.

We didn’t expect much company, so here is a basic Raya feast of MakanByte.

Raya 2

More Raya feast reports coming soon.

McDonald’s dinner
Dsc01912

Bored with the usual routine of berbuka puasa, all the usual food, ayam golek, ikan bakar and what not, we tried something different. The epitome of fast food, McDonald’s.

There was a time for me when McDonald’s if a way of life. Eating at McD’s brings back memories.

During my school days, I had McD’s for almost everyday. It is the hang out place for me and my friends. It is easy and there is no surprise you know what to expect when coming to a McDonald’s. A Big Mac is a Big mac no matter which McD you go.

Nasi Bojari at Madam Kwan
Nasi Bojari

Yesterday we went to Madam Kwan for berbuka puasa. Madam Kwan chain of restaurants have been around for quite sometime and I’ve seen a few outlet pop-up here and there.

We went to the Pavilion’s Madam Kwan outlet, located at the Lower Ground floor, where the Pavilion’s Food Republic is.

‘Truly Malaysian Cuisine’, is Madam Kwan’s tagline and they stay true to it. Even though they do serve western meals on it’s menu, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

When I’m in Madam Kwan, there is only two things I had in mind. The Nasi Lemak and Nasi Bojari. I had Nasi Bojari this time.

Chinese Mooncakes
Mooncakes 1

For those of you who aren’t familiar, Mooncakes are Chinese pastry traditionally eaten during Mid-Autumn Festival. This is when the moon is believe to be at its most beautiful and roundest on the night.

Legend has it that, the Mid-Autumn festival is intricately linked to the legends of Chang E, the mythical Moon Goddess of Immortality. There are also stories that mooncakes were used as a medium by the Ming revolutionaries to secretly distribute letters in order to overthrow the Mongolian rulers of China in the Yuan dynasty.

Then again I am no expert in Chinese legend or its history. Whenever I saw a bakery selling mooncakes I know it is that time of the year and I just have to get one.

Roti Special at Memori Corner

When one talk about Roti Bakar (toast) and half-boil egg, usually it’s something you have for breakfast. However, most breakfast meals in Malaysia is now considered an all day meal.

You can get Roti Bakar (toast) and half-boil egg at any time of the day, most probably at all of the Kopitiam type shops that are popping up almost everywhere.

Roti Special

At Memori Corner however, it is a little bit different. Instead of having a plate of toast and a bowl of half-boil egg, separately, they have them together.

Roti Hawaii at SS2 Murni

If you live in PJ or if you work somewhere around the PJ area you must have heard of this place called SS2 Murni.

I first heard about SS2 Murni when I was still staying in Ampang, from a friends who stayed in Putrajaya and work somewhere in K.L. city. Hardly a PJ people, yet they know of this eating place at SS2 called Murni.

It is very difficult to describe what Murni is. At first glance you can call it a mamak, but their menu offers more then what you find in a typical mamak place.

It is a mamak that has almost everything you could think of. They also have special menu that you might not find anywhere else. Just ask the waiter, he or she will then recite the legendary ‘Murni menu chant’.

One of it’s special is a unique dish called Roti Hawaii. It looks like a Murtabak with mayonnaise drawn to look like a spider web.
